Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a wide array of heroes, and a gripping narrative featuring angels, evil spirits, and dark forces increasing in strength within the urban setting.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
Episode 3 finished on a huge suspense moment and introduced the first table of adventurers who will separate from the primary party to begin their own adventure, distinct from the remaining groups.
This warrior group consists of the determined fighter (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).
The Reason for Division
Considering an extensive roster, it was obvious from the start that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.
This explains, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Overture, intertwining the individual narratives before branching into three separate parties: Warriors, Strategists, and Explorers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
According to the DM, the warrior group is for players who prefer a classically intense battle-oriented narrative style where peaceful solutions are few and far between.
Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might look mismatched, but the actions of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are perfectly fit for the warrior group.
Why They Must Go
To begin with, the group understands precisely where to go next after a brutal opening clash with the antagonists.
An old friend of Thjazi—whose passing initiated the story’s plot—exploited The Crow Keepers for his own means, entering the hidden lair, striking the rogue, and swiping all the powerful objects to dispose of.
Casimir then settled his obligations and fled to a fortified location in the remote area, beyond the urban center, with Teor’s brother close behind.
Character Drivers
Secondly, each member has a specific drive to depart the metropolitan area:
- The agile hero, as the companion and trusted friend, wants revenge.
- The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the northern area and advises that it is a nasty environment.
- The warrior and The healer, having resisted his relatives’ demands to eliminate Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their position as key figures in the influential clan could enable the team enter locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Moreover, The grateful character vowed a life debt to The savior for his salvation and will now follow him anywhere.
Fugitives
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the rulers that govern Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making staying in the city too risky:
- The rogue and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
- Tyranny and The cleric turned against the powerful family and the army of fiends they are allied with.
- The target is wanted dead by the clan.
This means them little choice but to travel to the northern region in quest for the antagonist.
Upcoming Developments
From episode three’s post-show segment, we discover that the warrior group won’t be around next week, leaving the remaining eight cast members to round up the Questers and Planners tables.
